Joke Of The Day

Why did the tourist go to Barbados with a ladder?

Because he heard the drinks were on the house!

Interesting Facts

  • Barbados is the birthplace of rum, with the world's oldest rum distillery - Mount Gay Rum - located on the island.

  • The island has a population of approximately 287,000 people, making it one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

  • Barbados is home to the famous Harrison's Cave, a limestone cavern featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and underground waterfalls.

Bussa’s Rebellion, also known as Bussa’s Revolt, was the largest slave uprising in the history of Barbados, taking place from April 14 to April 16, 1816.

Bussa's Rebellion erupted in April 1816, marking the largest slave uprising in Barbadian history.

The revolt began in St. Philip as cane fields blazed, quickly sweeping through Christ Church, St. John, St. Thomas, St. George, and parts of St. Michael.

Led by Bussa, over 400 men and women challenged the colonial militia, but were outmatched and overpowered.

Bussa fell in battle and, within days, the rebellion was harshly suppressed.

An estimated 50 enslaved people were killed in the fighting, 214 were executed, and 170 exiled.

Despite its defeat, the uprising profoundly shaped Barbadian history and fueled the movement toward abolition in the British Empire.

The Bussa Statue at Haggatt Hall stands as a symbol of freedom, while Bussa himself is remembered as a National Hero of Barbados, his legacy inspiring the ongoing pursuit of justice.
