In Barbados, the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs is ramping up action against gender-based violence, with Minister Adrian Forde underscoring its urgency at Ellerton Wesleyan Holiness Church in St. George.

Survey findings from the Inter-American Development Bank show that violence against women and vulnerable groups remains a serious concern.

The ministry has launched a campaign with bus stop and billboard messages, urging respect for women and highlighting social responsibilities.

Eleven advertisements are already in place, with more to come as part of the drive.

To boost women’s empowerment, a recent entrepreneurship expo showcased over twenty young entrepreneurs, including those with disabilities.

Forde emphasized the challenge of unpaid and underpaid labor, noting that 42% of Barbadian households are led by single women.

The new Social Empowerment Agency will support families and enhance equal access to services, while the National Organisation of Women’s motorcade broadens vital support for those facing violence.

Barbados is demonstrating a strong commitment to eradicating gender-based violence and promoting women’s empowerment.
