What is the national dish of Barbados and what are its main ingredients?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Adrian O. Mapp, a native of Barbados, has led Plainfield, New Jersey as mayor since 2014, driving remarkable transformation.

Under his guidance, Plainfield has attracted more than $1 billion in investments, resulting in over 6,000 new homes and 600,000 square feet of vibrant commercial space.

Remarkably, the city saw zero homicides in 2024, thanks to innovative community policing and youth-focused initiatives.

Mayor Mapp has also championed major infrastructure upgrades, improving over 60% of roadways and expanding transit options like the convenient One-Seat Ride to New York City.

Equity efforts include the Plainfield Promise, providing college savings and financial literacy for young students.

Beyond Plainfield, he leads prominent state organizations, advocating for urban communities throughout New Jersey.

Supported by his family and deep community ties, Mayor Mapp exemplifies visionary and inclusive leadership.

Opposition Senator Ryan Walters has sharply criticized the government's HOPE Inc. housing initiative, pointing to major concerns outlined by the Auditor General.

Speaking in the Senate, Senator Walters highlighted a legal error that has stalled 20 low-income homes in Christ Church, calling it evidence of deeper problems within the national housing strategy.

He stressed that the Auditor General found HOPE Inc. lacked clear goals, milestones, or performance indicators from the start—resulting in over $64 million in public funds being committed without proper authorization, heightening legal risks for the government.

Walters noted in some cases there was no clear property title, raising the threat of compensation claims.

He also described extra taxpayer costs, including nearly $38 million added by choosing precast construction. The program’s renewable energy promises also fell short, with only two homes delivered as planned.

Concerns included a Guyana housing arrangement where missing components and weak oversight could cost millions more.

Walters called for more transparency and accountability, arguing the government’s record on housing needs urgent improvement.
