Women's leadership in Barbados, West Indies |
Highlighting international women's forum and women mentorship |
In Barbados, the commitment to advancing women's leadership is evident through a series of impactful initiatives and events. The International Women's Forum (IWF) Barbados Chapter, established in 2019, has been instrumental in fostering a network of accomplished women leaders dedicated to mentorship and empowerment. In February 2024, IWF Barbados hosted the annual IWF Global Board Meeting and Strategic Retreat, marking a significant milestone for the organization. The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has also played a pivotal role in promoting women's leadership. Their annual P.O.W.E.R. Summit, held in March 2024, focused on preparing and optimizing women in business to excel in their careers. This event provided a platform for women to connect, retool, and gain insights from thought leaders across various fields.
In the realm of sports, efforts to bridge the gender gap have been noteworthy. In January 2026, the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) hosted the 'Re-Presenting Female Leaders in Sport' workshop. This initiative aimed to empower current and aspiring female sports leaders and administrators by equipping them with essential skills for decision-making roles in a traditionally male-dominated environment.
The United Nations has also been active in amplifying women's voices in Barbados. In April 2024, the UN convened an intergenerational dialogue as part of the #WeTheWomen Global Campaign. This forum brought together women from diverse backgrounds to discuss their visions for a more equitable and sustainable future, addressing critical issues such as climate change and women's rights.
These initiatives underscore a collective effort in Barbados to promote women's leadership and mentorship. By fostering supportive networks and providing platforms for growth, organizations like IWF Barbados, BCCI, BOA, and the UN are contributing to a future where women's leadership is not the exception but the expectation. |
