Adrian O. Mapp, originally from Barbados, has been a transformative figure in Plainfield, New Jersey, serving as mayor since 2014.
Under his leadership, the city has seen over $1 billion in new investments, resulting in more than 6,000 housing units and 600,000 square feet of commercial space.
In 2024, Plainfield recorded zero homicides, a testament to innovative community policing and youth mentoring initiatives.
Mayor Mapp has also prioritized infrastructure, with over 60% of roadways repaved and the expansion of transit services, including the off-peak One-Seat Ride to New York City.
His commitment to equity is evident in initiatives like Plainfield Promise, aiming to provide every kindergarten child with a college savings account and financial literacy training.
Beyond city borders, Mayor Mapp serves as the President of the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association and Chairman of the NJ Black Mayors Alliance for Social Justice, advocating for urban communities statewide.
With a background as a Certified Public Accountant and degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Rutgers University, Mayor Mapp combines financial expertise with a passion for public service.
He resides in Plainfield with his wife, Amelia, and their two daughters, Shermona and Ayisha, and is an active member of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church.
