Flash-Flood Warning Issued for Barbados Amid Tropical Wave |
Residents Urged to Exercise Caution as Heavy Rainfall Continues |
The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Flash-Flood Warning for the island, effective from 4:30 a.m. today until 6 p.m., as a tropical wave brings widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Overnight, up to one inch of rain has been recorded, with an additional two to three inches expected throughout the day under mostly cloudy to overcast skies.
Officials warn that the heavy rainfall may lead to severe flooding, runoff from higher elevations, soil erosion on exposed land surfaces, and rising water levels in ponds and drains.
There is also the potential for debris and large objects to be carried by fast-moving water flows, creating dangerous conditions on roads and near coastal areas.
Some roads may become impassable or cut off, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.
The public is encouraged to monitor updates from the BMS, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the Government Information Service (GIS) through their official websites and social media channels.
Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions to safeguard property and ensure personal safety.
Stay tuned to local media for further updates as the situation develops. |
