Barbados Embarks on Year-Long Celebrations for 60th Independence Anniversary

Nation Launches 'On the Road to 60' Festivities Starting December 1, 2025

Barbados has initiated a year-long celebration titled 'On the Road to 60', marking the nation's journey towards its 60th Independence Anniversary on November 30, 2026.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley announced the commencement of these festivities during a town hall meeting in Brooklyn, New York, emphasizing the significance of this milestone for the nation.

She encouraged Barbadians worldwide to participate, stating, “This country of ours is becoming a senior citizen like I am, and from the first of December this year, we will start the celebration of our 60th Anniversary.”

The celebrations aim to unite Barbadians globally, fostering a sense of national pride and community.

In addition to the Independence festivities, Prime Minister Mottley highlighted upcoming significant anniversaries, including the 400th anniversary of modern settlement in 2027 and 400 years of Bridgetown as the capital in 2028.

These milestones present opportunities to reflect on the nation's rich history and cultural heritage.

As part of the 'On the Road to 60' initiative, the government has planned various events and activities to engage citizens and the diaspora.

These include cultural exhibitions, community projects, and educational programs designed to celebrate Barbados' journey and achievements over the past six decades.

Barbadians are encouraged to participate actively in these events, both locally and abroad, to honor the nation's legacy and look forward to a prosperous future.

As the nation embarks on this celebratory journey, the spirit of unity and pride is expected to resonate throughout the island and among Barbadians worldwide.
